What France Identité does not replace
The digital identity card is not valid at border controls. If you are flying to Spain, Portugal, or any other country, border police will require a physical document (identity card or passport).
The same logic applies to foreign airports: returning from Lisbon with only your smartphone will not pass local control. A physical document is mandatory as soon as a border is crossed, including within the Schengen area.
